Thumb out of commission

While on a walk this evening Shelby was pushing her doll in the doll stroller and fell. She scrapped up her right thumb and her left-hand middle finger, as well as her knees. After lots of loud sobs we made it around the block and back home. We cleaned up her hands and put a bandaid on her thumb because it was bleeding a bit. I am pretty sure she screamed more at me trying to put on the bandaid than anything else. So here she is, eating graham crackers and milk for a bed-time snack.

Notice that her thumb is out of commission. She is right-handed most of the time, but she just couldn't get herself to use her right hand to hold the cracker, to dip, or even to help hold the cup as she drank her milk. It was pretty comical. Later, while picking up Lego's, she wouldn't use her right hand at all. I was cracking up!

After she brushed her teeth I did take the bandaid off, so that she wouldn't be picking at it. The bandaids are "Hello Kitty" (thanks for the cats Mom, haha) and she was finally saying "Hi meow" at the end, instead of just crying every time she looked at it. Such a sweet girl!

Fort Davis

We spent the day in Fort Davis today. It is about 100 miles away. It was a pretty day, however it was VERY windy. This is the only picture we took - eating ice cream! We spent the morning walking around the small town, then we went to the Fort and went through a few buildings. By then it was lunch time ~ we ate at a Mexican restaurant there in town. After lunch we went to the McDonald Observatory and looked out over the land from the high point we were on. Shelby was excited for a snack, so we got some ice cream. Fort Davis is a pretty area and we enjoyed it. We ended our day in Alpine, grabbing a few groceries, then we ate dinner in Marathon with a sweet friend. Pretty sure none of us got sunburned! Yippee!

Favorite pass-time

Shelby and I enjoyed a wonderful, fun, beautiful wedding last night! You can see her silky dress in the background, which she wore last night. I didn't have my camera :( but am hoping others will send me some pictures of the wedding. Anyway, this is Shelby being silly with the CD case from the CD the bride & groom gave out.

For some reason Shelby loves to get all her hair ties out. This seems to be her favorite pass-time. She just empties the bag and leaves them out. Sometimes she'll put them away on her own, but usually we have to help her do it. Other favorite things lately? Her purse. Her babies (I think she says "baby" or "babies" about 1,000 times per day). Her Daddy. :)

21 months today

Shelby is 21 months old today. The cutest things she is doing lately are:
-calling most people by their name (Nes for Vanessa, Lu for Luke, Anielle for Danielle, Max, Any for Randy, Uncle I and Aunt T, Art, Mammy for Tammy, etc). She can say just about any name we tell her to say...in her own way. Love this! If you sent us a Christmas family picture it is on our fridge and chances are she knows your name.
-saying "Okay" all the time! This is her word for Yes.
-saying "memes" for Excuse me
-copying lots of words we say
-she still loves to talk on the phone

See if you can pick out the Okay and Memes on this video. :)
(Josh was getting ready to go shooting, so he had his gun belt on.)

What Shelby learned in Colorado

Anna, 12 months

Shelby, 20 months

Thanks Anna for teaching Shelby how to get up on things. (No sarcasm here, we really are thankful!) :)

And it is warm enough here to wear this dress ~ 89 degrees!
